Illuminated Letter
1. How did you make this print? Explain your process.
First, I made two drafts in my sketchbook of my design. Then, I got a plexiglass and carved my 'R' into the glass. Then, I put paint on the plexiglass, rubbed the paint out with felt and newspaper, and printed the design onto a wet piece of paper. When finished, I chose my most favorite two prints and wrote a quote that starts with the letter 'R'. 2. What did you do to make your illuminated letter look interesting? How did you tie it to your text? I put designs inside and out of my illuminated letter to make it look interesting. I tied it to my text by putting rose designs and thorns since the quote is 'Rose garden filled with thorns'. 3. What about this was the most hard or most easy part? The easiest part was carving the design into the plexiglass since the glass was really weak. The hardest part was printing since I had to have the perfectly balanced amount of paint, good control when rubbing the felt, and moderate dryness of the paper. 4. What would you do different on your next assignment, or if you had to do this again? I would try to use less wet paper because most of my prints turned out a little blurred because of the water. 5. Now that you've finished the project, what do you think about how visual imagery be used to enhance the understanding of written text? I think visual imagery being used to enhanced the understanding of written text really makes the writing stand out and more interesting. |
